Discover How the Digital Green Innovation Community Engages to Accelerate the Twin Transition in Indonesia

Community Gathering

Supported by Hi Incubator, the Community Gathering convened entrepreneurs, government, and ecosystem builders from Indonesia’s digital and green sectors to start the conversation on pressing sustainability challenges amid rapid digital transformation.

Our first gathering was conducted on February 13, 2025, and attended by 41 offline participants. The event commenced with an opening address by Daniel Schröder, Digital Green Innovation Lead at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, who shared his reflection on the community’s journey since 2022 as well as an introduction to the Digital Green Innovation (DGI) programme.

He highlighted the program's objective of leveraging digital solutions to accelerate Indonesia’s transition toward a climate-resilient future. This gathering also served as an invitation to join the DGI challenge and concluded with an interactive networking session.

Innovation Studio

Innovation Studio is a phase of DGI Challenge where selected innovators across Indonesia are empowered to co-create innovation through peer learning, validation workshops supported by knowledge partners, and expert clinics to test and validate ideas.

By the end of this phase, innovators will have a refined innovation canvas with considerations for desirability, viability, feasibility, and sustainability, ready to be developed into funding proposals.

Jakarta Innovation Jam

On June 13, 2025, innovators and experts came together at Taman Ismail Marzuki for the Jakarta Innovation Jam.

Over the course of 4 hours, innovators from the DGI Challenge worked in clusters to transform their ideas into conjoined structured proposals using Concept Sheet and Sustainable Business Model Canvas with guidance from experts, facilitators, and knowledge partners.

The energy peaked during the Gallery Walk, where participants exchanged feedback across clusters, strengthening each project’s potential. By the end of the workshop, 9 innovation canvases were produced.

Bali Innovation Jam

Held to accommodate the DGI Challenge innovators residing in the Eastern Part of Indonesia, Bali Innovation Jam was held on June 30, 2025, at Indigo Space Bali.

On the first day, we organized a co-creation workshop, recreating the success of the Jakarta Innovation Jam to develop concepts for coastal innovation and urban green goods cluster, with support from facilitators and knowledge partners.

The following day, innovators get to experience an Innovation Tour to Green School Bali and Desa Hidrogen Hijau Serangan. This immersive experience not only inspired but also reinforced the program’s commitment to bridging concepts with real-world contexts.

Jakarta Future Festival Panel

Jakarta Future Festival 2025 is a collaborative space for ideas and actions for the betterment of Jakarta, organized by the Regional Development Planning Agency of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

One of the panel session, “Jakarta Going Global: International Collaboration for Innovation”, served as a strategic platform to highlight Jakarta’s growing ambition to position itself as a global innovation city. The session emphasized the critical role of international collaboration to achieve such ambition, taking the example of partnerships between Jakarta and Berlin through the Digital Green Innovation (DGI) programme.

DGI’s inclusion in this dialogue underlined the program’s relevance as a model for cross-border cooperation, where digital and green innovation become key enablers of sustainable development and entrepreneurial growth.
